Bangladesh’s seven World Cup victories

Bangladesh are still a good team in the ODI format. After playing in the quarter-finals of the 2015 World Cup in this format, the Tigers played in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy in 2017. Which is quite an achievement. But in the T20 edition, Bangladesh is absolutely devastated. Bangladesh’s performance in the World Cup of this format is going well.
Bangladesh have played in all seven World Cups held between 2007 and 2021. The Tigers have played a total of 33 games in those seven seasons. Bangladesh have only won 7 of those 33 matches. Lost in 25 matches. In 2016, a Tigers match against Ireland was abandoned due to rain.

First win: Bangladesh have won the first contested T20 World Cup match in their history. In 2007, the Tigers played the Caribbean at Wanderers Stadium in South Africa.

Bangladesh limited West Indies to 164 runs in this game. Bangladesh then won the match by 6 wickets. Aftab Ahmed 62 and Mohammad Ashraful scored 61 points for Bangladesh in this game and gave the Tigers a big win. However, Bangladesh lost the next four matches.

Second win: Bangladesh had to wait for the 2014 World Cup for their second victory after their first World Cup victory. The fifth edition of the T20 World Cup took place on the ground of Sebar Bangladesh. The Tigers played two games in 2009, two in 2010 and two in the 2012 World Cup. Bangladesh lost all games played in this tournament. Shakib-Tamim was unable to perform directly on the main stage of the 2014 World Cup on home soil. They must play the qualifiers before playing on the main stage. The Tigers played a total of three games in the playoffs. Tamim-Mushfiq defeated Afghanistan in the first game of the qualifiers. It was their second World Cup victory.

Third victory: Bangladesh’s third World Cup victory also came in the 2014 qualifiers. After winning the first match of the qualifiers against Afghanistan, Bangladesh won the second match against Nepal. But the Tigers lost again to Hong Kong in Game 3 of the qualifiers. Still, Bangladesh gets a spot on the main stage. However, after playing four matches in the main stage, the Tigers haven’t tasted a single victory.

Fourth win: Bangladesh picked up their fourth win in the 20-man World Cup in the 2016 World Cup qualifiers. The Tigers faced the Netherlands in the service opener of the qualifiers. Bangladesh won the game by 8 points.

Fifth win: Bangladesh’s last World Cup victory was in the 2016 World Cup, even in the qualifiers. Bangladesh secured their fifth victory against Oman. Bangladesh’s game against Ireland in the 2016 World Cup has been abandoned. Still, Bangladesh made it to the main stage. But unfortunately, the Tigers couldn’t win any match of the main stage.
For the first time since 2007, Bangladesh had a chance to win the World Cup main stage in the 2016 World Cup. And that too against World Cup hosts India. India set a target of 147 runs against Bangladesh in the game. Despite being very close to victory, Bangladesh managed to score 145 points. As a result, Bangladesh had to leave the field with a tough single point loss. It was Bangladesh’s heaviest defeat in any ICC event.

Sixth victory: The Tigers have won two matches in the T20 World Cup 2021 which was held in Oman and the United Arab Emirates. The first is against hosts Oman and the second against Papua New Guinea. Mostafiz took 4 wickets for 36 runs and Shakib took 3 wickets for 28 runs. Shakib Al Hasan was the man of the match for his excellent stick and ball skills.

Seventh victory: Bangladesh secured their seventh T20 World Cup victory in 2021 against Papua New Guinea. The Tigers scored 181 runs for the loss of 7 wickets on the back of Mahmudullah Riyadh’s 50 and Shakib Al Hasan’s 46.
