Minister of Agriculture dr. md. Abdur Razzak said, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) has developed much improved varieties and technologies of different crops so far. But most of these technologies haven’t reached farmers that way. Therefore, these varieties and technologies for agricultural development in the country should be delivered to farmers more quickly. He said this at the opening of the Central Research Review and Program Formulation Workshop-2022 as the main guest at the Kazi Badruddoza Auditorium in Bari on Thursday.
This workshop was organized to evaluate the research programs carried out in the past financial year and to formulate the research program for the coming year in the light of these experiences. The technical sessions of the workshop will take place on October 13-19, 2022. This research review is done in three steps.
Regional research review, internal research review and central research review. First regional, then internal and finally central workshop on research assessment and program formulation, analysis of last year’s research activities and formulation of next year’s research program is the reason why this workshop is of immense importance.
In this workshop the problems of local and regional agriculture were discussed in detail at various levels with the participation of the agricultural extension service, representatives of farmers, representatives of government and private institutions, and research programs were drawn up in that light. Regional research assessments are carried out regionally. Internal and central research reviews are held at Bari’s headquarters.
Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute is currently conducting research on 211 crops. So far, Bari has developed a total of 1,237 technologies, including 625 high yielding (including hybrid), disease resistant and several adverse environmental resistant varieties and 612 advanced production technologies. As a result of all these technological innovations, the production of oilseeds, pulses, potatoes, wheat, vegetables, spices and fruit crops in the country has increased enormously. The main aim of this workshop is to check the usefulness of these technologies and to adopt technology innovation programs in accordance with the current needs of the country.

Minister of Agriculture dr. md. Abdur Razzak said their income should be increased by providing the farmers with improved crop varieties and technology. The agriculture of the country will not develop if the income of the farmers is not increased. We say that the country is self-sufficient in food these days. But we must not only be self-sufficient in food grains, but also increase the production of other crops. At present, about 20-25 thousand rupees of edible oil and 5-7 thousand rupees of pulses need to be imported annually. We want to increase the local production of edible oil by 40% in the next 4 years. This will save us about 10-12 thousand crore rupees.
The Minister of Agriculture said that the summer tomatoes produced in our country are of very high quality. We want to grow tomatoes all year round. If successful, we can export tomatoes abroad to meet the needs of the country.
He said the prime minister has taken the country to a unique level of development. It is our responsibility to maintain it.
Minister of Agriculture (Routine Taken) said in the speech of the special guest. Ruhul Amin Talukdar said the amount of agricultural land in the country is decreasing day by day. So we need to quickly disseminate the innovations we have at the field level. This will increase agricultural productivity. If we can double the productivity of rice, more land will become available for other crops. This ensures food and nutrition security.
That said the director-general of Bari in the speech of the president. Debashish Sarkar said that as the agricultural land in the country is decreasing, we want to use our unused land. We want to increase our crop production, especially in the areas of Haor, Charanchal, Saline and Barendra. We want to do another cultivation between the two rice fields. We want to increase the production of pulses and oil crops in the southern saline regions. This will increase both agricultural productivity and farmers’ incomes. Overall development will be achieved in the agriculture of the country.
