End of all speculation. Team India got the replacement of Jasprit Bumrah for the upcoming T20 World Cup (ICC T20 World Cup 2022). According to BCCI sources, Mohammed Shami will fly to Australia within a week as a replacement for Bumrah. However, Shami’s name has not yet been announced by the board. However, it is known through sources that there is a possibility that Shami will join the Indian team as a replacement for Bumrah. Sahespur Express is currently in rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy after recovering from Covid-19. His fitness report would be satisfactory. As a result, the possibility of Shami entering the Rohit Sharma-Rahul Dravid world is only a matter of time. But there is only one problem. Shami is currently struggling with a lack of competition training.
One injury after another in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup. Bumrah, the team’s number one fast bowler, has already been sidelined with an old back injury. Since then, there has been intense speculation about who will replace Bumrah. Deepak Chahar’s name also came up in the discussion. Like Shami, he was also on standby. Deepak Chahar was the team’s first choice when Bumrah got injured. He therefore got a chance in two limited overs series against South Africa (IND vs SA). Despite playing three T20Is against the Proteas, Deepak Chahar suffered an ankle injury before the start of the first ODI. And he is currently in the NCA due to an ankle injury. The team management does not want to take the risk of bringing him to Australia. And so Shami’s name came to the fore again. His flight to Australia was confirmed.
According to sources, Shami would have gone to Australia with the team on October 6 if there were no doubts about Bumrah’s fitness. It has now been reported that he will fly separately to Australia after obtaining NCA’s fitness certificate. Meanwhile, as Shami entered the first team, Mohammed Siraj enters the list of ‘standby’ pacers in his place.
November 8, 2021. Shami played the last match in this format against Namibia in the final T20 World Cup (ICC T20 World Cup 2021). Although he did not play T20 for the national team, however, he performed well for Gujarat Titans in the fifteenth IPL (IPL 2022). He took 20 wickets in 16 matches. And so Indian cricket got excited when Shami’s name was on the ‘standby’ list in the T20 World Cup team.
His omission from the starting fifteen of the T20 World Cup, being put on ‘standby’, then the rumors of his inclusion in the squad and finally the Covid. Because of this, he was unable to play the Australian series. Despite the team not playing in the Australia series, the team management will choose Shami as their first choice over Bumrah in terms of experience. Moreover, India has no better option than Shamir at the moment. He has playing experience in Australia in red and white. He also performed well at the 2015 World Cup. As a result, the fast bowler, who has practically become a brat in T20, has been given a golden opportunity to prove himself once again on the international stage. But there is only one problem. Shami is currently struggling with a lack of competition training.
