Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates fight to keep hope alive

Geelong, Oct 17, 2022 (BASS): Former champions Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates, who started the eighth T20 World Cup with a loss, meet again tomorrow to keep their hopes alive in the tournament. Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates, who lost their respective matches on the opening day of the World Cup, will meet tomorrow in their second Group ‘A’ match in the first round. Both teams need to win this game to keep the hopes of playing the World Cup Super Twelve alive.

The game between Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates will kick off at 2 p.m. Bangladesh time at Kardinia Oval Park in Geelong, Australia. The Lankans were flying in the sky after winning the T20 Asian Cup last month. In this situation, Sri Lanka started the T20 World Cup in Australia. But Sri Lanka, flying through the skies, was brought down to earth by Namibia, a small Twenty20 cricket team.

Sri Lanka was crushed by 55 points by Namibia in the opening game of the T20 World Cup which started yesterday. Although they kept Namibia under pressure early in the game, the Lankans went astray afterward. Later, Sri Lanka could not return to combat. In the end, 2014 World Cup winner Sri Lanka had to leave the pitch with their heads bowed in shame.

Hitting first, the Sri Lankan bowlers kept the pressure on the opposition for 14 overs in the Namibian rounds. At that time Namibia had 91 runs for 5 wickets. The two Namibian batsmen, Ian Frylink and JJ Smith destroyed the bowling of Sri Lanka by collecting 68 points during the last 5 overs. Namibia got a collection of 163 tracks. In response, Sri Lanka fell to Namibian bowling. They were pooled for 108 races with 1 more remaining.

Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka is disappointed with such a defeat. But Shanaka desperately tries to get up. It takes the confidence of the Asian Cup. Even after starting the Asian Cup with a loss, Shanaka’s side won the crown of excellence.  Shanaka said, “Such a loss is really disappointing. But we want to think more about this game. I want to look ahead. This team has the ability to return to battle. Everyone on the team is ready to correct their mistakes. Hopefully, we will get back to our form with the win.

On the other hand, the United Arab Emirates lost by 3 wickets against the Netherlands in their first game. The United Arab Emirates did not beat the Netherlands well. Batting first, he scored 111 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. Yet the bowlers of the United Arab Emirates have fought with this capital.
After 14 overs, the UAE bowlers allowed the Netherlands to score 77 runs for 6 wickets. In this, the UAE dreamed of winning the T20 World Cup for the first time. The Netherlands needed 35 runs in the last 6 overs with 4 wickets in hand. But the Dutch prevailed with the fifth ball of the last over, shattering the UAE’s hopes.

Despite losing the first match, the UAE wants to shock Sri Lanka. The United Arab Emirates is excited by Namibia’s victory against Sri Lanka. Team captain CP Rizwan said: “Namibia has won a great victory. We are encouraged by their victory. Courage has risen in us, we can beat Sri Lanka too. But we have to do better at batting and bowling.

Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates have only met once in the T20. It was in the 2016 Asian Cup. Sri Lanka beat the United Arab Emirates by 14 points in the match held at the Mirpur Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Sri Lanka scored 129 runs for 8 wickets in the UAE bowling alley.
